At 1:30 PM on July 4th beachgoers will witness an actual Combat Search & Rescue training mission. The Airmen who conduct many of these Personnel Recovery missions are called Pararescuemen (“PJs”.) Their motto is “That Others May Live” & their training is every bit as intense and difficult as that of other Special Ops units like Green Berets and the Navy SEALs.
During the training mission you will observe an individual – who might be an injured downed pilot or survivor of a sinking ship – in the water just off the shore of Incline Beach. A C-130 will fly over and release PJs to care for the wounded man and set up a defensive perimeter. Then the Pave Hawk helicopter will come in low and slow to extract the wounded and the PJs while the C-130 provides simulated defensive fire as necessary.
After the demo, join us at Village Green for a static display of the Pave Hawk!
Note that access to the Beach requires an IVGID picture pass or Guest pass. Beach guests must purchase tickets in advance at the Rec Center. No tickets are sold at the Beach. For more information, please CLICK HERE to visit IVGID's 4th of July page.
